An ancient form of dramatic presentation in Kannada language that has been in vogue in the Karnataka region, Yakshagana bears some similarities with Kathakali in the matter of dress, songs and accompaniments. However, the costumes worn by female characters are different from those in Kathakali and again, unlike in Kathakali, the actors in Yakshagana speak. Parthi Subba who was born at Kumbla in the Kasargod Taluk of Kerala is hailed as, “the father of the Yakshagana.The ceremonies and the devotees, the latter presenting themselves before him.
